Azure Information Protection Overview

Azure Information Protection Overview

Hello,

Hereunder a quick overview of what’s possible with AIP with EMS in Office 365. This is based on my early testing, just scratching the surface of the possibilities.

Admin Configuration

First, to access AIP, you need to go to the Azure portal, then search for the resources named “Azure Information Protection”.

You can also use this direct link. Once on this blade, you need to go to the “Protection Activation” section to enable the protection, you’ll need to do this only once.

Then, you can go to “labels”, and start playing around and create a custom one.

When the labels are created, you then need to create a policy to publish them:

Usage

Now you’re done with the admin portal side of things. You can now install the AIP client on your client, you can download it from here or here. Then, you’ill see the AIP ribbon on your Office client applications:

Based on the configuration you made earlier, those labels can me mandatory or optional.

You can see the protection that has been applied, this will work with external people also. External people can see the label name and configuration (if you configured external access of course).

You can also track the file from this page to see where and when it has been accessed.

Azure Information Protection Overview Licensing

AIP is a license on its own, you also can get it through some packages:

  • EMS E3/E5
  • Microsoft 365 E3/E5

Conclusion

That’s it for now, this was just a very quick overview of the basic functionalities of AIP, you can fin the full documentation here. I think this is a great addition to your Office 365 deployment that worth looking at.
